FAMILY EXPLORERS WEEKEND AT PROFESSOR VALLEY FIELD CAMP

OCTOBER 1-3, 2010
$275/person (Adults) - $175/person (Kids) - Under 6 are free

Parents!
Bring the kids for a fun filled weekend of exploration and learning
at our Professor Valley Field Camp.
We are hosting a special weekend just for families May 7-9, 2010.

2 Nights at our Professor Valley Field Camp sleeping in tipis. Includes healthy meals starting with dinner on Friday through lunch on Sunday, hikes, educational talks including a night sky program and a whitewater rafting trip (class I-III rapids) on Sunday.



RIVER RAFTING TRIPS

Dolores River Rafting: A Rare Opportunity to see this beautiful place.

Two trips offered this Spring:

May 26 - 28, 2010: Bradfield to Slickrock

$450/adults, $350/youth 12-17. Deposit $125.

Join CFI for a two night rafting Ed-Venture on the Bradfield to Slickrock section of the Dolores River. This trip meets and ends in Dove Creek, Colorado. Raft through the scenic 'Ponderosa Gorge' with red rocks and pine forests. Class I-IV whitewater includes the famous Snaggletooth Rapid. Small group size, hiking, and natural and cultural highlights. Adults and youth over 12 welcome. Dependant on snowpack/dam release. We will offer a Colorado River River trip as an alternative trip if necessary with same prices/dates.

June 2 - 5, 2010: Slickrock to Bedrock

$550/adults, $450/youth 6-17

Family Explorers Rafting on the Dolores River, 3 night/ 4 day trip from Slickrock to Bedrock. Bring the family with you on this trip on a calmer section of the river with class I-III rapids, deep meanders, sandstone canyons and Native American history. Small group size, hiking, great meals and more. Adults and youth over 6 welcome. Dependant of snowpack/dam release. We will offer an alternative trip on the San Juan River if necessary with same prices and dates.


WOMEN WILD BY NATURE RIVER TRIP

Colorado River - Horsethief, Ruby and Westwater Canyons Karla VanderZanden, Director.
Women only, adults and young women 16-17 years of age.

August 3 (eve) - August 7, 2010

4 nights, 4 days (includes first night hotel stay in Grand Junction) then 3 nights camping. Short side hikes. Optional inflatable kayaks on the upper Class I-II stretch and rafting in Class III-IV Westwater Canyon. Take out Cisco, UT. Trip starts and ends Grand Junction, CO. Small group, variety of ages, novices welcome. BRING YOUR DAUGHTERS, NIECES or GRANDDAUGHTERS!

Rainbow Bridge - Navajo Mountain Hiking with Packstock Support Trip

April 27 (eve) - May 2, 2010 5 nights, 5 days
$1350/person - CFI member: $1330/person - Deposit: $300

Fee includes first night stay and orientation at Recapture Lodge, 1 night camping stay at traditional Navajo home and 3 nights on the trail, covering 14 miles, with optional side hikes. Moderately-rated hiking on rocky, established trail. Navajo guides and packstock carry our gear except our day packs. We return trip by charter boat on Lake Powell to Hall's Crossing. Healthy meals, ground transportation and interpretation by CFI, featuring Founder-Director, Karla VanderZanden.

Rare opportunity to see these prehistoric Fremont rock art and sites in-depth with plenty of time. Two days with vehicle tour and hikes, evening program, all meals. Located in the Book Cliffs between Green River and Price, Utah, Range Creek canyon has been recently opened to research and restricted vehicle access after careful protection by local ranching family for many years. Small group, comfortable vehicle supported camp, longer trip allows quality time for exploring, hiking, discussion. Moderate hiking, up to 2 miles round trip. Start/end Green River.


VALLEY OF THE GODS

Weekend with Gene Foushee

Another "Gene and Karla" trip - don't miss this unique outing to explore some lesser known spots near Mexican Hat and the San Juan River Canyon. From our cozy base at Recapture Lodge in Bluff, built by Gene and his wife Mary in the 1960's, we enjoy vehicle tours and short hikes learning about rocks, rock art, and wild west history and a special dinner. Gene is a Geologist and guide who has lived, worked and guided in this region for over 50 years and so inspirational!

Start/end Bluff, Utah.

A Celebration of Reading and Writing in Moab - Fall, 2010 -

Two day writers workshop is followed by a weekend of public readings, panel discussions, activities for kids and more with acclaimed authors and scholars focusing on western writing, life and issues. Naturalist hikes, some shared meals included.

CFI MEMBERSHIP

It is not necessary to be a member of CFI to take these trips though we welcome your support which helps to underwrite our youth work. CFI general members receive $20 off trip fees; Plateau Society members 10% off trip fees (see Contribute to join us now with an online membership.)

You'll enjoy a balance of moderate physical exercise, optional nature hikes from camp, time to read from our rich trip library, and interesting campfire conversations. We work with local personalities, guest experts, and quality, locally-owned services. Youth fees apply up to 17 years of age.
