Henry Mountains Van and Hiking Tour

Sept. 25(eve)-28th Van Tour and Hiking Henry Mountains. Adults, 16 yrs & older
Collaborating with Hondoo River and Trails and the Cat Ranch. Featuring retired geologist and long time Plateau resident Gene Foushee and CFI Director Karla VanderZanden.

Small group, minimum 5 and maximum 8 participants. Delicious meals featuring "regionally grown" and fresh foods. Trip starts with evening stay and orientation at Recapture Lodge in Bluff, Utah. We travel by air-conditioned van from Bluff, across Cedar Mesa with geology and history highlights along the way.

Martha Stockham, long time owner of the Cat Ranch, has graciously offered to host us at her small working ranch in the Henry's. We will tent camp in the forest adjacent and have meals, gatherings inside and out. Hondoo River and Trails meet us the next day for a 4 wheel van tour with short hikes as we explore a loop towards Mt. Ellen and back. We learn about prehistoric Fremont Indian history, early anglo explorations, fire ecology, the Henry's bison herd and other wildlife as well as current issues facing this remote and intriguing mountain range.

The next morning we head south, with a stop at Starr Springs and more interesting geological features then board the ferry to cross Lake Powell, returning via Hall's Crossing and Cedar Mesa once again. We return to Bluff by 5pm on Sunday.

Fee includes meals from breakfast at the lodge through lunch the last day. Dinner and lodging the last night are on your own.
