The Dolores River with headwaters in the San Juan mountains of southwestern Colorado, flows for over two hundred river miles before it joins the Colorado River near Dewey Bridge above Moab, UT. In 1776, a Franciscan, Silvestre Velez de Escalante christened the river "Rio de Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores" - River of Our Lady of Sorrows.

May 26 - 28, 2010: Bradfield to Slickrock
$450/adults, $350/youth 12-17. Deposit $125.
Join CFI for a two night rafting Ed-Venture on the Bradfield to Slickrock section of the Dolores River. This trip meets and ends in Dove Creek, Colorado. Raft through the scenic 'Ponderosa Gorge' with red rocks and pine forests. Class I-IV whitewater includes the famous Snaggletooth Rapid. Small group size, hiking, and natural and cultural highlights. Adults and youth over 12 welcome. Dependant on snowpack/dam release. We will offer a Colorado River River trip as an alternative trip if necessary with same prices/dates.
June 2 - 5, 2010: Slickrock to Bedrock
$550/adults, $450/youth 6-17
Family Explorers Rafting on the Dolores River, 3 night/ 4 day trip from Slickrock to Bedrock. Bring the family with you on this trip on a calmer section of the river with class I-III rapids, deep meanders, sandstone canyons and Native American history. Small group size, hiking, great meals and more. Adults and youth over 6 welcome. Dependant of snowpack/dam release. We will offer an alternative trip on the San Juan River if necessary with same prices and dates. |

Naturalist Family Westwater Canyon Overnight Trip on the Colorado River - Rafting

The August 27-28, 2009 trip features a SPECIAL "En Plein Air: Painting Westwater Canyon" with landscape artist, Chad Niehaus and CFI Founding Director, Karla VanderZanden. Includes "seeing" with new eyes, pastels and watercolor instruction.
