The exciting new River Adventure Week is a 6-day learning adventure for teens entering 9th-12th grades. In the heat of the summer, spend 6 awesome days paddling and rowing on the Colorado River. CFI’s experienced Naturalist Guides will teach you to navigate whitewater rivers, practice river reading skills, and learn how to row a raft or paddle a ducky. This is a hands-on experience using paddle boats and inflatable kayaks.

The first section of river takes the group through Ruby-Horsethief canyons were we’ll cover basic river safety, river rescue, maneuvering different types of boats, ethics for river travel! This stretch of river has mild class I rapids. Further downstream we enter Westwater Canyon encountering up to class III rapids for an exciting challenge. We run the biggest rapids in a raft and have fun getting wet and enjoying the unique beauty of this canyon. More miles of river awaits us to keep cool in the summer heat.

The camp starts at the Loma, CO Boat Launch and ends at the Hittle Bottom Boat Launch on highway 128 near Moab, Utah. All participants help in prepping gear, rigging the boats at the boat ramp,  paddling downstream, setting up camps and preparing meals guide style!

Each day, the group will practice river reading skills and learn how to row a raft or paddle a ducky. Emphasis is placed on basic river safety procedures and river rescue skills. Learn to maneuver different types of boats through exciting rapids, and swim in the river’s milder sections.  The course also focuses on applying minimum impact techniques and ethics for river travel and exploring the incredible riparian ecology of the desert region on side hikes and beach time. Participants’ personal gear list (basic) will be provided; we can help you as needed.
