Apply to be considered to serve on CFI’s volunteer governance board of trustees or to serve on a committee.


TIME COMMITMENT: Meetings every month by conference call, usually second Thursday/month. Additional committee or special meetings usually once month. (Committee work approximately 4-8 hours/month in addition to regular board meetings. ) Expected to participate in CFI program once/year and assist with public relations or fundraising event once/year. Term is 3 years and one can serve two consecutive terms.


The CFI governance board serves on a volunteer basis and provides oversight and leadership in the following categories:

  • Strategic long term and annual planning
  • Marketing/sales
  • Financial management
  • Fund-raising

Governance board members commit to active volunteer participation, and to leadership of finite, well-defined projects. Standing committees may include non board members and currently include: Education, Citizen Science & Sustainability, Site/Facilities, Governance, Finance & Risk Management and Fundraising & Public Relations.

OTHER: Trustees are asked to contribute financially at a significant level for their individual circumstances; trustees are required to observe/ participate in a CFI program prior to final acceptance on the board, meet with Executive Director and at least one active trustee to review current key issues, financial and planning documents. New trustees will receive orientation, board manual from CFI and are asked to complete a non profit boards training workshop within 90 days of starting service. The CFI board engages professional consultant services for training and planning periodically.
