Founded in 1984, Canyonlands Field Institute is an outdoor education center located in the heart of the Colorado Plateau. We encourages people of all ages to experience wild nature directly with few of the trappings of modern life, through hiking, camping, tours and river running. Thousands of adults, families and students have participated in our outdoor programs while studying natural and cultural history, wildlands values, ethics and issues, writing, and guiding.

We have field camps at breathtaking Professor Valley, 20 miles from Moab; and in the nearby La Sal Mountains. The camps are under lease on public lands. Adult and student participants venture into Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, National Bridges and Hovenweep National Monuments; local wilderness study areas; the Manti-La; Sal and San Juan National Forests; Monument Valley, Navajo Mountain and Rainbow Bridge; Cedar Mesa and Escalente/Lake Powell. River study programs are conducted on the Colorado, Green, San Juan, and Dolores Rivers, and on the Navajo, Hopi, and Ute Indian reservations. Special workshops and symposia for adults are located at residential sites throughout the region.
